San Giusto a Rentennano (of Etruscan origin), overlooks the high course of the Arbia river in the southernmost part of Chianti Classico. Ancient Cistercian monastery (hence already named San Giusto alle Monache), then an unruly fortress, was marked as a boundary between the counties of Siena and Florence according to a treaty of 1204. The castle still retains the Guelph merlons of the wall, the massive walls at Barbacane and the underground cellars, still used today for the maturation of the wines in barrels. Owned by the Martini family of Cigala since 1914, today by the brothers Anna, Lucia, Elisabetta, Francesco, Alessandro, Luca.
Produced from rigorously selected Sangiovese grapes (97%) and Canaiolo (3%). Fermentation and maceration take place in concrete and steel tanks for about 18/20 days.
about 20 months in French oak barrels and 6 months in bottle
Intense ruby red color. Rich and complex nose, with floral notes of purple and distinct flavors of red fruits (marasca, cherry and currant), enriched with spicy and balsamic nuances. In the mouth it is characterized by great delicacy and balance. The finish is long, juicy and endowed with excellent freshness that enhances its drinkability.
James Suckling 94/100, Gambero Rosso 3 glasses
