Tenuta Guado al Tasso is located in the small and prestigious DOC of Bolgheri, on the coast of Alta Maremma, about a hundred kilometers southwest of Florence. This appellation has a relatively short history (established in 1995) but boasts international fame as a new benchmark in the global wine scene.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot represent the elegance, complexity, and structure of the Bolgheri terroir. Guado al Tasso has been produced since 1990 from vineyards situated on soil of alluvial origin, from clay-sandy to clay-silty, with the presence of Bolgheri conglomerate (skeletal material).
The Guado al Tasso label features the coat of arms of the Della Gherardesca family with their initials, DG, the former owner of the estate.
Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes were selected at two distinct stages: before and after destemming, to ensure that only perfectly ripe grapes reached the fermentation tanks. As with every harvest, individual vineyard plots were divided into many small picking sections based on the year's climatic trends, distinguishing them by grape characteristics and vinifying them separately. Fermentation and maceration took place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature for 15-20 days. After racking, the wine was transferred directly into barriques, where malolactic fermentation occurred by the end of the year. In February, the best vinified batches were selected and blended.
18 months in French oak barrels
Guado al Tasso 2022 presents an intense ruby red color. On the nose, it initially strikes with notes of flowers and red fruits, then opens up to sensations of sweet spices, such as tobacco and licorice root. On the palate, it is savory and silky, with excellent balance and good body that well complement the elegant tannic structure. It is a wine that offers excellent drinkability right away, but which will also express itself in the coming years.
