Il Lamaione is a prestigious Tuscan IGT red wine produced 100% with Merlot grapes from the historic Marchesi Frescobaldi winery within the CastelGiocondo estate in Montalcino. It represents one of the highest expressions of this international grape variety in Tuscany, born from vineyards originally planted in the 1970s on soils rich in marine clays.
The Lamaione vineyard is located at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level, on argillaceous soils and with south-west exposure. The Merlot grapes were carefully selected and hand-harvested in crates. Once in the cellar, the pressing was followed by manual sorting of the berries. Fermentation took place in steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Subsequently, the wine was aged for 24 months in new French oak barrels at 80%; a further 12 months of aging followed in the bottle. At the end of this process, Lamaione 2017 was ready to delight and tantalize the palate with elegantly balanced and intense sensations.
24 months in French oak barrels and 12 months in bottle
It has a very dark ruby red color that is very dense and impenetrable. On the nose, the fruit is ripe plum and cherry. Then cocoa, rhubarb, licorice and graphite notes take over. The finish is coffee, which is alternated with the pairing of chocolate and mint. On the palate it is warm, with a dense and voluminous tannin structure; it does not shy away from pairing with particularly intense foods. In the aftertaste, tobacco notes appear alongside the bold cocoa note. The “pai” aroma is intense and very long-lasting.
